Potatoes and white Carbohydrates

Many people believe that potatoes are bad carbohydrates, because of the high glycerin index. Some people even advise “Avoid all white carbohydrates”. White bread and refined white sugar are two bad things to our bodies. But, we need not fear all “white carbohydrates”. There are plenty of white foods that have specific nutrients that are not found elsewhere.

For example onions and garlic are white and they are full of protective phytonutrients, vitamins, and trace minerals that are not easy to find elsewhere in a normal diet, such nutrients as allicin, quercetin an important flavonoid) chromium and other unique anti-inflammatory nutrients.

Other examples of white things good for us are:-

  • Cauliflower
  • broccoli
  • cabbage

Even white mushrooms have high levels of unique nutrients and antioxidants. White mushrooms are high in two types of antioxidants called polyphenols  and ergothioneine. White potatoes and red, yellow, purple varieties also are very good to health.

However while persons who are obese/over weight may reduce intake of potatoes, in any case, we should not loose the benefits of potatoes.
