The budget session of Parliament in India will commence from 2nd July 2009 to 7th August 2009 and the General Budget for 2009-10 will be presented to the Lok Sabha on 6th July 2009. The Railway Budget will be presented by Railway Minister Ms.Mamata Banerjee on 3rd July 2009. 7. The Economic Survey of India also will be presented during the present session. This will be the first budget of the UPA Government in its second term.
The Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh has advised the Finance Ministry to ensure that the budget should reflect adequately and appropriately the priorities of the Government set out in the President’s address in the Joint sitting of the Parliament. The priorities include:-
- Providing Rice or Wheat at Rs 3/- per Kg for families Below the Poverty Line (BPL)
- Enlarging the coverage of the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme
- Giving More Focus on Building Infrastructure to bring the economy back on the high growth track
