The “Budget Session” of the Parliament of India to commence from 22nd February 2010

The “Budget Session” of the Parliament of India will commence from 22nd February 2010 and will last upto 7th May 2010. The ‘Railway Budget’ will be presented on 24the February 2010 and the ‘General Budget’ will be presented on 26th February 2010.The President of India Mrs.Pratibha Patil will address a Joint sitting of both the Houses of the Parliament, namely, the Lokh Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The address is expected to outline government’s plans and policies on key issues.The ‘BJP’, the Left and other parties have demanded that a discussion on the ‘ problem – rising prices’ be taken up on the first working day of the three-month long session on Tuesday. They have indicated disruption of proceedings in case the issue of price rise was not taken up for discussion on 23rd February 2010.However, the Opposition Leader Ms.Sushma Swaraj has said if the government agreed to a debate on the issue on the first working day, there will be no disruption in the ‘budget session’.
