The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is a Lifetime Achievement Award given to Indian Cinema Artists for their outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Indian Cinema. The award was set up by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting of the Union Government of India, and has been given every year from 1969, by the Directorate of Film Festivals, in the Annual National Film Awards Festivals (NFA), along with other National Film Awards.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was instituted in 1969, to commemorate Mr. Dadasaheb Phalke (1870-1944), who was the pioneer and the father of Indian cinema and who produced and directed the first full length Indian feature film – ‘Raja Harischandra’ in 1913.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award consists of:
- A shawl,
- Cash Award of Rs 10 Lakhs(US $ 16000/-) and
- Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) Medal.

1969 – MS. DEVIKA RANI (1908-1994)
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was given to Devika Rani for HINDI movies, in the 17th NFA -1969.
Devika Rani is known as the first lady of Indian cinema, who founded – ‘The Bombay Talkies’, the first Indian public limited movies production company in 1934.
She had acted in her first movie ‘Karma’-1933, produced and co-acted by Mr.Himanshu. In the movie-‘Karma’ Devika Rani and Himanshu had acted in a kissing scene, running on the screen, for 4 minutes, which is still a record in the Indian cinema history.
1970-MR. BIRENDRANATH SIRCAR (1901-1980)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Birndranath Sircar for BENGALI movies,in the 18th NFA- 1970. He founded his film companies: ‘International Film Craft’ and the‘New Theatres’. He had built many ‘cinema theaters’ in Calcutta (Kolkata).
1971-MR. PRITHVIRAJ KAPOOR (1906-1972)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Prithviraj Kapoor for HINDI movies, in the 19th NFA – 1971 for HINDI movies. The Award was given to him posthumously. His eldest son and the popular Hindi Actor-cum-Producer, Raj Kapoor received the award on behalf of Prithviraj Kapoor.
Prithviraj Kapoor had acted in many Hindi stage dramas. In 1944 he founded a ‘Touring Stage Dramas Company named the ‘Prithvi Theaters’ to promote Hindi Stage Dramas. He had acted in the ‘first Indian film with audio’: ‘Alam Ara’-1931.
1972-MR. PANKAJ MULLICK (1905-1978)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Pankaj Mullick for BENGALI movies, in the 20th NFA-1972.
Pankaj Mullick was a ‘Cinema Music Compose’r, who had been providing ‘background music’ by live orchestras, when the silent films were screened. His radio music ‘Mahishasura Mardini of the year 1931 is very popular.
1973-MS. SULOCHANA (RUBY MYERS) (1907-1983)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Ms. Sulochana for HINDI movies, in the 21st NFA – 1973.
Sulochana’s the first movie was ‘Veer Bala’-1925 and she is considered as the ‘first sex symbol’ of Indian Cinema’.
1974-MR. BOMMIREDDY NARASIMHA REDDY (MR. B.N. REDDY) (1908-1977)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. B.N. Reddy for TELUGU movies in the 22nd NFA in 1974.He is a recipient of: the ‘Padma Bhushan Award’ and a Honoray ‘Doctor of Letters’.He had produced 15 Telugu feature films.
1975-MR. DHIRENDRANATH GANGULY (1893-1978)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Dhirendranath Ganguly for BENGALI movies, in the 23rd NFA- 1975.
Dhirendranth Ganguly was the founder of ‘Bengali Films Industry’ and he had acted in the Bengali Movie: ‘Bilat Ferra’ in 1921. He founded 3 Bengali Movies Companies: 1. ‘Indo British Film Company’ in 1918, 2. ‘Lotus Film Company’ in 1922 and the ‘British Dominion Films Studio’ in 1929.
1976-MS. KANAN DEVI (1916-1992)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Ms.Kanan Devi for BENGALI movies, in the 24th NFA – 1976.
Kanan Devi is considered as the ‘First Lady of Bengali Cinema’, who had acted in the ‘Silent Bengali movies’ in 1920. She founded her own movies company ‘Shrimati Pictures’. She had sung India’s National Poet- Rabindranath Tagore’s songs in her movies.
1977-MR. NITIN BOSE (1897-1986)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Nitin Bose for BENGALI & HINDI movies, in the 25th NFA -1977.
Nitin Bose was a Benali ‘Cinematographer, Director and Screenplay Writer’. He introduced ‘Playback Singing’ in Indian Cinema in 1935 in his Bengali movie, ‘Bhagya Chakra’ and its Hindi remake, ‘Dhoop Chhaon’.
1978-MR. RAICHAND BORAL (1930-1981)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Raichand Boral for BENGALI & HINDI movies, in the 26th NFA-1978.
Raichand Boral was a ‘Cinema Music Director’, who introduced ‘Playback Singing’ in Indian Cinema along with Director Nitin Bose.
1979-MR. SOHRAB MODI (1897-1984)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Sohrab Modi for HINDI movies, in the 27th NFA – 1979.
Sohrab Modi was a Hindi ‘Actor and a Producer’. He brought the English classic dramas of Shakespeare into ‘Indian Cinema’.
1980-MR. PAIDE JAIRAJ (1909-2000)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Paide Jairaj for HINDI & TELUGU movies, in the 28th NFA-1980.
Paide Jairaj was an ‘Actor and a Director of Hindi and Telugu movies’. He had portrayed ‘Indian Historical Characters’ in Indian cinema.
1981-MR. NAUSHAD (1919-2006)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Naushad for HINDI movies, in the 29th NFA – 1981.
Naushad was a ‘Hindi Cinema Music Director’ . His first movie was ‘Prem Nagar’-1940. He introduced new techniques of sound mixing in Indian Cinema.
1982-MR.L.V.PRASAD (1908-1994)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. L.V.Prasad for HINDI & TAMIL movies, in the 30th NFA – 1982.
L.V.Prasad was an ‘Actor, Director and Producer of Hindi and Tamil movies’. He had acted in the first audio films ‘Alam Ara’ –Hindi, ‘Kalidas-Tamil and ‘Bhakta Prahalada’-Telugu, all released in 1931. He founded the ‘Prasad Studios’ in the year 1965 and the ‘Prasad Colour Film Laboratory’ in 1976, which produced more than 150 movies in various languages.
1983-MS. DURGA KHOTE (1905-1991)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Ms. Durga Khote for HINDI & MARATHI movies, in the 31st NFA – 1983.
Durga Khote had acted in the ‘first Marathi audio movie’, V.Shantaram’s ‘Ayodhecha Raja’-1932. She founded 2 Movie Production Companies: 1. ‘Fact Films’ company and 2. ‘Durga Khote Productions’ company, which produced ‘short films and documentary films’. She played the role of the ‘Grandmother of the Heroine’, in the Hindi movie-‘Bobby’-1973, starred by Rishi Kapoor & Dimple Kapadia..
1984-SATYAJIT RAY (1921-1992)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given was to Mr. Satyajit Ray for BENGALI movies, in the 32nd NFA-1984. He was conferred on with India’s Highest Civilian Award- the ‘Bharat Ratna’ in 1992.
Mr.Satyajit Ray directed his first Bengali film ‘Pather Panchali’ in the year 1955. He attracted the entire world towards Indian Cinema, by his unique realistic portrayal of life of Indians in his Bengali movies.
1985-MR. V.SHANTARAM (1901-1990)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. V.Shantaram for HINDI & MARATHI movies, in the 33rd NFA – 1985.
Shantaram had produced and directed the ‘First Indian Colour Movie’, ‘Sairanhri’ – 1931 adn ‘The first Marathi audio movie’-Ayodhyecha Raja’- 1932.
1986-MR. B. NAGI REDDY ( 1912-2004)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. B.Nagi Reddy for TELUGU movies, in the 34th NFA -1986.
Nagi Reddy had produced more than 50 movies from the year 1950. He founded ‘Vijaya Vahini Studios’, the then Asia’s ‘biggest Films Studios’. He is the younger brother of the popular Telugu Movies Producer -Mr.B.N.Reddy.
1987-MR. RAJ KAPOOR (1924-1988)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Raj Kapoor for HINDI movies, in the 35th NFA – 1987.
Mr.Raj Kapoor, the first son of Mr.Prithviraj Kapoor,was a Hindi movie actor and producer. His performance in his movie, ‘Awara’ in 1951 had been ranked as one of the ‘Top 10 Greatest Performances of All Time’ by ‘Times’ Magazine in 2010.
1988-MR. ASHOK KUMAR ( 1911-2001)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Ashok Kumar for HINDI movies, in the 36th NFA – 1988.
Ashok Kumar was a popular Hindi character actor. Some of his notable movies are: ‘Achhut Kannya’ (1936), ‘Bandhan’ (1940) and ‘Kismet’ (1943).
1989-MS. LATA MANGESHKAR (Born on 28th September 1929-Aged 88 Years)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Ms. Lata Mangeshkar for HINDI & MARATHI movies, in the 37th NFA – 1989.
Lata Mangeshkar, known as the ‘Nightingale of India’ is a popular Indian playback singer, and she had sung in over 36 languages from 1940.
1990-MR. AKKINENI NAGESWARA RAO (1923-2014)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr.A.Nageswara Rao for TELUGU movies, in the 38th NFA – 1990.
A.Nageswara Rao (ANR)was one of the persons who moved the ‘Telugu Movie World’ from Madras to Hyderabad. He founded the ‘Annaurna Studios’ in 1975 and the ‘Annapurna International School of Film and Media’ within the ‘Annapurna Studios’ in 2011. He had been the ‘First Super Star of Telugu Cinema’. From his first movie (Telugu) : ‘Dharma Pathini’ (1941),he has acted in more than 250 movies, mostly in Telugu and some in Tamil (Notable Tamil Movies of ANR are: Devadas-1953, Kalyana Parisu-1959) and a sole Hindi Movie: ‘Suvarna Sundari’ -1957.
1991-MR. BHALJI PENDHARKAR (1897-1994)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Bhalji Pendharkar for MARATHI movies, in the 39th NFA – 1991.
Bhalji Pendharkar was Producer of Marathi & Hindi movies, who had produced more than 60 Marathi & 8 Hindi Movies, from 1920. His movies were notable for the ‘historical and social narratives’.
1992-DR. BHUPEN HAZARIKA ( 1926-2011)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika for ASSAMESE movies, in the 40th NFA – 1992.
Bhupen Hazarika, known as the ‘Bard of Brahmaputra’ was a Cinema Music Director, popular for his folk songs and ballads in Assamese.
1993-MR. MAJROOH SULTANPURI (1919-2000)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Majrooh Sultanpuri for HINDI movies, in the 41st NFA – 1993.
Marooh Sultanpuri was a ‘Hindi Movies- Lyricist’, who had written about 8000 songs, from his first movie ‘Shahjehan’-1946.
1994-MR. DILIPKUMAR (Born on 12th December 1922- Aged 95 Years)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award was given to Mr. Dilip Kumar for HINDI movies, in the 42nd NFA – 1994.
Dilip Kumar has acted in more than 60 movies, from his first movie: ‘Jwar Bhata’ (1944), mostly in character roles and he is the ‘Tragedy King’.
1995-DR. RAJ KUMAR (1929-2006)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Dr. Raj Kumar for KANNADA movies, in the 43rd NFA – 1995. He had also won a ‘National Film Award’ for the ‘Best Male Playback Singer’ in 1992, for his Classical Song in ‘Thodi Raaga’- ‘Naadamaya’ in the Kannada movie ‘Jeevana Chaitra’.
Dr.Rajkumar is a Kannada Movie Actor & Singer, who has acted in more than 200 Kannada Movies, in a span of 45 years.
1996-MR. SIVAJI GANESAN (1928-2001)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award was given to Mr.Sivaji Ganesan for TAMIL movies, in the 44th NFA – 1996. He was conferred on with many Awards including: Padma Shri (1966), Padma Bhushan (1984) , Chevalier (1995), Dada Saheb Phalke Award (1996), Kalaimamani (1997) & NTR National Award (1998).
Sivaji Ganesan popularly known as ‘Nadigar Thilagam’, had acted in more than 300 Tamil movies from his first movie, “Parasakthi” in 1952. He is known for his ‘unique dialogues delivery’ and ‘lips movements’ and ‘body language’ in acting.
1997-MR. KAVI PRADEEP (1915-1998)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr.Kavi Pradeep for HINDI movies, in the 45th NFA – 1997.
Kavi Pradeep is a ‘Hindi Movie -Lyricist’, known for his patriotic song,’ Ayea Mere Watan Ke Logo’. He has written about 1700 songs, nationalistic poems and lyrics for songs for more than 80 Hindi movies.
1998-MR. BALDEV RAJ CHOPRA (B.R.CHOPRA) (1914-2008)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. B.R.Chopra, for HINDI movies, in the46th NFA – 1998.
B.R. Chopra was a ‘Hindi Movies Producer’, who had founded ‘B.R.Films’ in 1956. Some of his popular Hindi movies are: ‘Naya Daur’ (1957) & ‘Hamraaz’ (1967). Also, he is the Producer of the popular Television Serial: ‘Mahabharat’, telecast from 2nd October 1988 to 24th June 1990.
1999-MR. HRISHIKESH MUKHERJEE ( 1922-2006)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Hrishikesh Mukherjee for HINDI movies, in the 47th NFA -1999.
Hrishkesh Mukherjee is a ‘Hindi Movie Director & Producer’. Some of his popular movies are: ‘Anuradha’ (1960), ‘Anand’ (1971) & ‘Gol Maal’(1979).
2000-MS. ASHA BHOSLE (Born on 8th September 1933-Aged 84 Years)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Ms. Asha Bhosle in HINDI movies in the 48th NFA – 2000. She is having a ‘Guinness Book of World Records’(2011) for the ‘most recorded artist in the music history’. She was also conferred on with the ‘Padma Vibhushan’ Award (2008).
Asha Bhosle, the younger sister of the popular singer Lata Mangeshkar is also a popular singer, who started her singing career from 1948.
2001-MR. YAS CHOPRA (1932-2012)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given for HINDI movies to Mr. Yas Chopra, in the 49th NFA – 2001.
Yas Chopra was a ‘Hindi Movies Director & Producer, who founded his Movies Production Company- ‘Yas Raj Films’. He has directed 22 Hindi movies from his first movie: ‘Dhool ka Pool’-1959.
2002-MR. DEV ANAND (1923-2011)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Dev Anand for HINDI movies, in the 50th NFA – 2002.
Mr. Dev Anand is a’ Hindi Actor and Producer’ and he is the co-founder of the movies company ‘Navketan Films’, started in 1949, along with his elder brother Mr.Chetan Anand. The ‘Navketan Films’ has produced 35 movies. He has acted in 114 Hindi movies and 2 English movies.
2003-MR. MRINAL SEN (Born on 14th May 1923- Aged 94 years)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Mrinal Sen for BENGALI movies, in the 51st NFA – 2003.
Mrinal Sen is a ‘Bengali Movies Producer & Director’, who has produced 27 movies, from his first movie: ‘Raat Bhore’- 1955.
2004-MR. ADOOR GOPALA KRISHNAN ( Born on 03rd July 1941- Aged 76 Years)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Adoor Gopala Krishnan for MALAYALAM movies, in the 52nd NFA – 2004.
Adoor Gopala Krishnan is a Malayalam Movie Director , who had won the ‘National Film Award’ for the ‘Best Direction’for his first movie: ‘Swayamvaram’ in 1972. He is popular for the portrayal of ‘complex social problems in a simple manner’, in his movies.
2005-MR. SHYAM BENEGAL (Born on 14th December 1934 – Aged 83 Years)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Shyam Benegal for HINDI movies, in the 53rd NFA – 2005.
Shyam Benegal is a ‘Hindi Movies Producer’, who focused on the rights of women in India, in his movies. He had been making ‘Advertisements Films’ and he directed his first feature film ‘Ankur’- 1973.
2006-MR. TAPAN SINHA ( 1924-2009)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’was given to Mr. Tapan Sinha for BENGALI movies, in the 54th NFA – 2006.
Tapan Sinha is a ‘Bengali Movies Director & Producer’. From 1954 he had produced & directed more than 40 feature films in Bengali, Hindi and Oriya, mostly based on the problems of ordinary people of India.
2007-MR. MANNA DEY ( 1919-2013)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Manna Dey for BENGALI & HINDI movies, in the 55th NFA – 2007.
Manna Dey is an’ Indian Movies Playback Singer’, who had sung more than 3500 songs in various Indian Languages. His songs have been with ‘infusion of Indian Classical Music in a Pop Framework’. The popular Malayalam Song: ‘Maanasa Maine Varu’ in the ‘Awards Winning Malayalam Movie’: ‘Chemmeen, starring Sathyan, Sheela and Madhu, was sung by Mr. Manna Dey.
2008-MR. V.K.MURTHY (1923-2014)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. V.K.Muthy for HINDI movies, in the 56th NFA – 2008.
V.K.Murthy is a ‘Cinematographer’ who had been working along with the popular ‘Hindi Movies Director’ Guru Dutt. He had worked in ‘India’s first Cinemascope Movi’e: ‘Kaagaz ke Phool’-1959. His movie: ‘Pyassa’- 1957 is popular for his ‘lighting techniques and beam shots’, used at a time when the technology had not developed as at present.
2009-MR. DAGUPATI RAMA NAIDU (D. RAMA NAIDU)(1936-2015)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. D.Rama Naidu for TELUGU movies, in the 57th NFA – 2009. He was also conferred on with the ‘ Padma Bhushan’ Award in 2012.
D.Rama Naidu was an ‘Indian Movies Producer’, who had produced more than 130 movies in various Indian languages, mostly in Telugu. He is a ‘Guinness Book of World Records’-holder for the most number of movies produced by an individual, having produced more than 150 movies in 13 Indian languages.
2010-MR. K.BALACHANDER (1930-2014)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. K. Balachander for TAMIL & TELUGU movies, in the 58th NFA – 2010.
K. Balachander was an ‘Indian Movies Director & Producer’, having his own Movies Production Company: ‘Kavithalaya Productions’. He has directed more than 100 Indian Movies in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, from his first Movie: ‘Neerkkumzhi’ – Tamil (1965). He is popularly known as the ‘Iyakkunar Sigaram’ (meaning: Peak of Directors)
2011-MR. SOUMITRA CHATTERJEE ( Born on 19th January 1935- Aged 83 Years)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Soumitra Chatterjee in BENGALI, in the 59th NFA – 2011.
Mr. Soumitra Chatterjee is a Bengali Movies Actor. His first movie was ‘Apur Sansar’ in 1959 and he has worked with ‘Bengali Movies Directors’: Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen and Tapan Sinha.
2012-MR. PRAN KISHAN SIKAN / PRAN (1920-2013)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Pran for HINDI movies, in the 60th NFA – 2012. He was also conferred on with the ‘ Padma Bhushan Award’ in 2001.
Pran is a Hindi Actor, who had played mainly ‘Negative Characters’ (Villain) and also in Character roles. He had acted in more than 360 movies from 1940 to 2007, in a span of 67 years.
2013-MR. GULZAR ( Born on 18th August 1934- Aged 83 Years)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Gulzar for HINDI movies, in the 61st NFA -2013. He was also conferred on with the ‘Padma Bhushan Award’ in 2004.
Mr. Gulzar is a ‘Hindi Movie Lyricist & Director’ and his first movie as a Lyricist was ‘Bandini in 1963 and as Director was ‘Mere Apne’ in 1971. He has worked with popular Music Directors such as : R.D.Burman and A.R.Rehman. He has written the ‘Theme Song’ for the ‘Animated Cartoon Movie for Children’: ‘Mottu Pattlu’.
2014-MR. SHASI KAPOOR (1938-2017)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. Shasi Kapoor for HINDI movies, in the 62nd NFA – 2014. He was also conferred on with the ‘Padma Bhushan Award’ in 2011, and earlier with the ‘Padma Shri Award’ in 1992.
Shasi Kapoor, the Third / Last son of the popular Hindi Actor Mr. Prithiraj Kapoor and the younger brother of the popular Hindi actors Raj Kapoor & Shammi Kapoor, is also a popular Hindi Actor. He started his acting career at the age of 4 years, as a ‘Child Artist in the Stage Dramas’ of his father Mr. Prithviraj Kapoor. He founded the Movies Company: ‘Film Valas’ in 1978 also he revived his father’s ‘Prithvi Theaters’.
2015-MR. MANOJKUMAR / ALSO KNOWN AS BHARAT KUMAR (Born on 24th July 1937- Aged 80 Years)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr.Manoj Kumar for HINDI movies, in the 63rd NFA -2015. He was also conferred on with the ‘Padma Shri Award’ in 1992.
Manoj Kumar has acted and directed more than 60 Hindi movies, mostly with ‘Partriotic Themes’, from 1957 to 1995, especially after 1965.
2016-MR. KASINATHUNI VISWANATH / K. VISWANATH (Born on 19th February 1930-Aged 88 Years)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given to Mr. K. Viswanath for TELUGU movies, in the 64th NFA – 2016. He was also conferred on with the ‘Padma Shri Award’ in 1992.
K. Viswanath was an ‘Audiographer’ turned Telugu Movies Actor, Screen Play Writer and Director. He has received the ‘National Film Awards’ for his Movies: Sanakarabharanam, Saptapadi, Swati Mutyam and Swarabhishekam.
2017-MR. VINODH KHANNA 1946-2017)
The ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Award’ was given ‘posthumously’to Mr. Vinodh Khanna for HINDI movies, in the 65th NFA – 2017.
Vinodh Khanna was a ‘Hindi Movies Actor & Producer’. He had acted in more than 120 Movies from 1968 to 1997 in a span of about 30 years and in about 20 Movies from 2001 to 2015 in a span of about 15 years.
Vinod Khanna temporarily quit acting in movies in 1997, when he was in the peak of his acting career. He entered ‘Indian Politics and joined the ‘Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1997. He had been an elected Member of the Parliament (MP) and the Minister of State for ‘Culture & Tourism’ for 6 months in 2002 and he was a ‘Minister of State for External Affairs’ for sometime, in A.B.Vajpayee’s ‘National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Cabinet, headed by the BJP / A.B.Vajpayee.
