Revised Refund Rules for Cancellation of Train Tickets of Indian Railways/IRCTC

The following are the Revised Refund Rules of the Indian Railways/ IRCTC Train Tickets Booking w.e.f. 12.11.2015refund-rules-12-11-2015

Certain provisions of refund rules have been amended and comprehensive refund rules have been notified after 1998.

The new Refund Rules are effective from 12.11.2015.

The Objective of the new changes in the refund rule are as Under:

  •  To Plug the scope of misuse.
  • To facilitate passengers with mobile ticketing/proposed paperless ticketing etc.
  • To discourage touts/agents on black marketing of tickets.
  • To provide  Automatic Refund of fare on e-tickets in case of cancellation of trains (Already implemented w.e.f. 01.07.2015). No TDR filing is required in this case.

The major changes in the existing rules are as under:-2015-cancellation-charges

Rule 1:

1(i) Levy of Clerkage per Passenger for Cancellation of Unreserved, RAC and Wait Litsted Tickets:

  •   Before 12 11 2015: Rs 15/-
  •   Revised wef.12 11 2015: Rs 30/-

1(ii) Levy of Clerkage per Passenger for Cancellation of Second class (Reserved) and Other classes Tickets:

  • Before 12 11 2015-Rs 30/-
  • Revised wef. 12 11 2015-Rs 60/-

Rule 2:

2 (i) Cancellation Charges per passenger on Confirmed (Reserved) Tickets:-

48 Hours before the Scheduled Departure of the Train-Minimum Cancellation Charges:

First  AC/Executive Class:

  • Before 12 11 2015-Rs 120/-
  • Revised wef.12 11 2015-Rs 240/-

Second AC/First Class:

  • Before 12 11 2015-Rs 100/-
  • Revised wef 12 11 2015-Rs 200/-

3AC/ACC/3A Economy Class:

  • Before 25 11 2015-Rs. 90/-
  • Revised wef. 12 11 2015 –Rs 180/-

Second Sleeper Class:

  • Before 12 11 2015- Rs 60/-
  • Revised wef. 12 11 2015-Rs 120/-

Second Class:

  • Before 12 11 2015-Rs 30/-
  • Revised wef. 12 11 2015-Rs 60/-

2(ii):

  • Before 12 11 2015:

Between 48 hours and 6 hours before the Scheduled Departure of the train @ 25% subject to minimum charge as per (i) above

  • Revised wef.12 11 2015:

Between 48 hours and 12 hours before the scheduleddeparture of the train @ 25% subject to minimum charge as per (i) above.

2(iii):

  • Before 12 11 2015:

From 6 hours before the scheduled departure of the train and upto 2 hours after the actual departure of the train @ 50% subject to minimum charge as per (i) above.

  • Revised wef.12 11 2015:

Between 12 hours and 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train @ 50% subject to minimum charge  as per (i) above.

NO REFUND AFTER THE ABOVE PRESCRICBED TIME LIMITS:

2(iv):

  • Before 12 11 2015:

NO REFUNDS More than 2 Hours After the Scheduled Departure of the Train

  • Revised wef.25 11 2015:

NOF REFUNDS Less than 4 Hours Before the Scheduled Departure of the Train

Rule 3:

Refund on Partially confirmed Tickets:

  • Before 25 11 2015:

Upto two hours after the actual departure of the train.

  • Revised wef. 25 11 2015:

Upto half an hour before the scheduled departure of the train

Rule 4:

Refund on unused RAC/WL tickets:

  • Before 25 11 2015:

Upto 3 hours of the actual departure of the train subject to deduction in clerkage charge.

No refund after the above prescribed time limit.

  • Revised wef. 25 11 2015:

Upto 30 Minutes  before the scheduled departure of the train subject to deduction of clerkage charge.

No refund after the above prescribed time limit.

Rule 5:

In case of cancellation of trains for e-tickets

  • Before 01.07.2015:

For refund, TDR had to be filed.

No change for counter PRS ticket.

In case of cancellation of trains for e tickets

  • wef. 01.07.2015:

Automatic Refund is granted.

Filing of TDR is not required.
